Caitlin and Alex’s wedding was originally scheduled for April 25th of 2020. When the world starting closing down mid-March, I sent an email to Caitlin letting her know we were staying on top of everything – we were here from them and would be ready to shoot their wedding in April. Little did we all know that a month (or 7 months later for that matter) large scale events would be prohibited. Caitlin and Alex wanted to be married more than anything, even if it meant scaling down their 300 person guest list to only 30. It was also important to Caitlin and Alex that they be married in the Catholic Church. So a new alternate date was chosen for the small and intimate service and celebration. Marc and I were honored to be two of the invited guests to capture their special ceremony day.
The ceremony was beautiful and the words spoken by Fr. Simon were perfectly on point. Caitlin and Alex are some of the most kind-hearted people you could ever meet. Throughout the pandemic, as Caitlin shuffled wedding dates around several times, did she once seem upset that 2020 put her wedding plans on hold. Although not everyone was able to be in attendance, thanks to the modern day technology many friends and family were able to witness these two wed via a video conference.
One of our favorite moments of the day came at the reception. Caitlin and Alex had rented out a large pavilion at Three Oaks Recreation Center in Caitlin’s hometown of Crystal Lake. Together with close friends – food, drinks, and toasts were shared. It was during the father of the bride toast when Caitlin’s dad began reminiscing about his daughter and how she was always the queen – receiving crowns for homecoming, Miss. Crystal Lake, and the often contested runner up of Miss McHenry County. He told his Caitlin – today was the best day she could wear a crown and placed a sparkly tiara on her head. Mr. Theos didn’t stop there. He said Alex also deserved a crown and placed a king’s crown on Alex’s head. The guests cracked up and cheered for the couple as the celebration went on through the evening.
We look forward to next year when we are able to celebrate the King and Queen of Crystal Lake on their wedding day part 2. Until then, please enjoy some of our favorite moments of their day.
A special thanks to all the vendors who made Caitlin & Alex’s day beautiful.
