Just last month Marc and I had the pleasure of driving to Elkhart Indiana to capture Aly & Blake’s wedding day. The week leading up to the big day was filled with summer rainstorms – soaking most of the Midwest. It is much needed for the farm fields but not so much for the planned beautiful outdoor garden ceremony. Marc and I arrived on the morning of the wedding while Aly and her mom were trying to decide if the weather would hold out for the ceremony or would it be necessary to move the ceremony indoors.
Although it is sometimes hard to give up hope on your perfectly planned ceremony, Aly pulled me aside to ask my opinion. I told her in all honesty that it was not worth the stress of worrying the entire day that the sky has a good chance of opening up and pouring on you and your guests. You should be looking into the eyes of your soon-to-be husband – not worrying about the clouds overhead. After the decision was made to move the ceremony indoors, both Aly & Blake’s moms went to work texting each and every guest about the change of ceremony locations. (Note to Future Brides: If having an outdoor ceremony at a completely different location, request phone numbers on the RSVP cards – this idea was helpful and brilliant). Needless to say – the correct call was made as tornado watches were issued and the skies poured outside as Aly walked down the aisle.
From the moment the ceremony started, the way Aly & Blake looked at each other was so heartwarming. It was plain to see that it didn’t really matter where the ceremony was being held, these two were promising forever to each other in such a touching beautiful way. The crazy – sunny – stormy – cloudy – pouring – sunny weather pattern did challenge us as photographers as we moved the timeline around to accommodate all the portraits around the unpredictable weather patterns. It seemed mother nature graced us with a few moments of calm weather to get all the beautiful portraits taken.
The evening ended with Aly doing a dress change into a second gown while the rain held off long enough for a fun and fabulous sparkler exit. Congratulations Aly & Blake, we loved being able to cross the state of Indiana off of our “states we’ve shot weddings in” list. Many happy years of wedded bliss are ahead for you both – we hope you enjoy your preview.
A special thanks to all the vendors who made Aly & Blake’s day beautiful.
