You’ve got that gorgeous ring on your hand, you’ve picked your photographer, now the day has come for your engagement session and you are feeling a little bit nervous. Why? It’s not like you haven’t had your picture taken before. But maybe it’s the first time other than an iPhone picture you and your fiance will actually be standing in front of a camera. Maybe you have no idea what to wear, maybe your stressing about where to have the photos taken, maybe your fiance is dreading getting all cleaned-up for photos. Either way, your engagement session should be FUN! Think of it as a dress rehearsal. There is no stress, no hard time limits, it’s just you and your fiance documenting the start of a very beautiful journey together. I have composed 5 tips to help you ROCK your engagement session.
Getting a shot of your engagement ring is a shot most photographers love to get, why not make sure your ring is ready for it’s closeup? If you return to the jeweler where the ring was purchased most will complimentary clean your ring. It only takes a few minutes, and that ring will be sparkling.
You want to look and feel your best for your engagement photos. Most salons recommend getting a trial run of hair and make-up before your wedding day. Your engagement session is the perfect time to schedule your appointment. Not only will you be able to specify to the stylist what you are looking for, you can also get an idea how your style will show in your photographs.
Nothing makes me more happy as a photographer than to be able to tell a story of a couple from start to finish. One of the first things I ask my couples is to talk about how they met, because that is were their story begins. Did you meet in a coffee shop? Why not start your engagement session at the local coffee hang out where you caught his eye over a grande mocha? Did you have your first date walking your dogs together at a local park? Let’s capture the beauty of the park at sunset just like it was on your first date. Your location doesn’t have to be the same as everyone else, let it tell YOUR story.
What should I wear…? This question has long haunted anyone about to get their picture taken, since the history of photographs. If you are having a hard time deciding what to wear, keep in mind you don’t have to choose just one outfit. I always love when my couples bring a two different looks to their engagement session. A couple different outfits provide diversity in your session, allowing for different looks which will provide you with a variety of photos. Something casual and something a little more dressy can provide an amazing array of looks for your session.
It may seem like a silly tip since you are engaged, of course you are in love. Being in the moment with your fiance, having fun, laughing, nuzzeling up with eachother during the session will show through your photos more than any pose your photographer can give you. If you are having fun it will shine though 100% easily in your engagement photos.
