Based in the suburbs of Chicago, we are a husband and wife photography team specializing in fine art wedding photography.
Julie and Taso had originally planned their large wedding for June of 2020. Like so many other couples, they had to postpone their wedding to a determined time in the future. We had kept in contact over the year and were excited when covid19 restrictions began to lift and this sweet couple was able to have the wedding they had always wanted.
One aspect of wedding photography that we find particularly enjoyable, is seeing how different cultures celebrate such a momentous occasion. We were excited when we learned of Taso’s Greek heritage and were looking forward to sharing in their Greek Orthodox ceremony and the following celebration. As Julie prepared for the day at the beautiful Renaissance Schaumburg hotel – Taso was preparing for portraits with his friends at their alma mater, Northwestern University in Evanston since Taso and Julie were not going to see each other until Julie walked down the aisle. Saints Peter & Paul Greek Orthodox Church is a wonderfully ornate church located in Glenview – this was Taso’s family’s church for many years. Each part of the ceremony was sacred and also an honor to witness – the exchanging of rings, the holding of candles, and hands and the crowing ceremonial walk.
After the ceremony, the couple chose to have portraits at the serene Bahá’í House of Worship. This large intricate white structure has always intrigued me and we were so happy to finally be able to photograph on the grounds. Nine arched entrances, pools, and immaculately kept gardens surround the temple. The marble steps and the engraved lace detailing was the perfect backdrop for bride and groom portraits – some of our favorites from the entire day.
As the couple arrived at the reception we were excitedly anticipating another part of Greek wedding culture which was the Greek Dances. Smiles were abundant as the families and guests held hands and celebrated the newlyweds, complete with Taso’s sister and brother-in-law from Greece, (the Koumbari), showering the couple with money on the dance floor.
Although this was the first Greek celebration for us, it certainly won’t be the last and we wish the happy couple a lifetime of happiness. Here are our favorite moments from their joyous day.
A special thanks to all the vendors who made Julie & Taso’s day beautiful.
