When Kate first contacted me about her wedding, I reviewed her wedding date and noticed it was on a Wednesday. Clearly, she must have entered the date wrong as I checked our availability and replied to her inquiry. She then clarified that the date was in fact on a Wednesday – the first day of Spring. Soon after speaking with Kate, David and I met up for coffee and started discussing their wedding day vision. To Kate, the date of March 20th was extremely important. Not only was it the first day of spring but it was also the same date that her grandparents, parents, and sister chose to wed. To pick out a date with so much family meaning – I knew without a doubt that Kate and David would be a perfect fit for our MLP family.
As we chatted over the course of the upcoming year, it was clear to me the unique and beautiful vision they had for their special day. Kate’s passion is gardening. Having a membership to the Chicago Botanic Garden allowed her to wander the grounds feeling the inspiration and joy of being one with such a beautiful landscape. Kate has even taken her passion for botanicals to achieve a certification in garden design from the Chicago Botanic Garden. For Kate, choosing a venue for their wedding was a simple – a spring, garden wedding, would be the perfect choice.
Now that they had chosen a date and a venue – the rest of the plans sprang to life as Kate excitedly talked about the beautiful spring influences she wanted to include. Tones of yellows, blues, and oranges, coupled with daffodils and tulips, would capture the spring theme perfectly. To top it off, the featured exhibit at the Botanic Gardens was The Orchid Show. Kate and David’s guests were invited to a private viewing of the beautiful tropical blooms of thousands of unique orchids and cacti from exotic locations such as the south pacific and the Amazon Rainforest. The smell was intoxicating as the guests were dazzled by the beautiful variety of flowers surrounding them. As night fell upon the reception, the rooms where colorfully illuminated. This allowed us to capture some of my all-time favorite nighttime pictures.
We were so excited to start off our 2019 wedding season on such a bright and beautiful note. Kate and David are such a sweet and fun couple and we couldn’t have asked for a better start to our year. Here are our favorite moments of the day, enjoy!
