Horse Farm Engagement Session | Elgin, IL

Welcome to engagement season! As summer fades into fall, we find ourselves booked nearly every week until Thanksgiving shooting engagement sessions. Most of these sessions are for our Marc & Mindy couples getting married next year. The engagement session is often the first time we get to have a long and relaxed conversation with the couples to get to know who they are and what they love about each other. Lucky for us – we had already met Emily & Daniel. Emily & Daniel contacted us earlier this year and had mentioned we were booked to capture her best friend’s, Joslyn & Zach, wedding in June. Emily was a bridesmaid that day, so we already had a chance to do a little chatting about her upcoming wedding too! It was so much fun having two (soon to be three) of our Marc & Mindy brides in one wedding party. The moment I saw Emily grab her fiancé Daniel and hit the dance floor – I couldn’t help but smile seeing how much of a perfect fit they were for each other.

If you know Emily, you know she loves her horses, Rocky and Olie. When Daniel decided to propose to Emily, he knew the horse barn was the place she was always the happiest. They took the horses out for an afternoon ride – after which they planned to change their clothes and meet up with Emily’s parents for dinner. As Emily was getting ready to leave, she saw Daniel on one knee in the barn just in front of the horses. Neither of them remembers exactly what was said in those next few moments – but the answer was an easy YES!

When it came time to choose locations for their engagement shoot, Emily knew she wanted to stop at St. James Farm, the place she grew up with the barn where she kept her horses. Engagement session with regal horses – I jumped at the chance. It was a fun and unique engagement session that completely told their story. It was so hard for us to choose our favorites but here are a few. We are looking forward to traveling to Michigan in 2020 to capture your big wedding celebration.
