Love stories often start in the most unexpected places, and for Dori and Sam, it all began with a chance encounter on a double date set up by mutual friends. Fast forward a few years, and their journey led them to a breathtaking moment atop El Peñon in South America, where Sam chose the perfect backdrop to propose to Dori during a trip for a friend’s wedding.

Arriving a couple of days early for the wedding festivities, Dori and Sam embarked on sightseeing adventures, and it was at Gautape, home to the famous 800-stair climb of El Peñon, that their love story reached new heights. With Colombia’s stunning vistas spread before them, Sam seized the moment, handing off their phone to a friend to capture the “view” as he popped the question asked Dori to spend forever with him. It was a trip filled with unforgettable moments and the promise of a lifetime of adventures together.

As they looked ahead to their future together, Dori and Sam made the decision to mark their love story with an engagement session right in their hometown of Des Moines, Iowa. Excited to encapsulate their connection amidst the comfort of familiar surroundings of parks they love to visit, they reached out and asked us to be there, ready to capture this special time of their lives.

For Marc and me, capturing love in meaningful locations is a privilege we cherish, and Des Moines offered the perfect canvas for Dori and Sam’s engagement photos. Against the serene backdrop of Water Works Park and the picturesque views of Grays Lake, they laughed, danced, and shared sweet moments, allowing us to capture exactly who they are as a couple.

No celebration could truly feel whole without the presence of their cherished feline friend, Maxx. His adorable antics and affectionate purrs brought an added sense of coziness and joy to the session.
