We often joke about couples who survive living through a pandemic together – they must be pretty solid in their relationship truly belong together forever. For most of our 2020 couples – having to reschedule a wedding was pure disappointment and inconvenience, but the story of Becca & Keron truly lends itself to one of the most challenging stories of the year.
Becca & Keron first met online. Becca ghosted her future husband once, but fate had different plans when they once again matched up a few months later on a different app. Keron self-admittingly says, “I turned on the charm”. The first date was a causal pizza date but the conversation flowed so easily – 4 hours later they shut down the restaurant and then continued on to another location for an additional 3 hours. Keron was so much on cloud nine – he even forgot to at least give Becca a hug. Confused – she thought perhaps he wasn’t into her. Luckily they both enjoyed the date greatly and planned many more.
As the weight of the COVID pandemic begins to sink in, it was more apparent that the hope of Becca & Keron’s July 2020 wedding was fading, especially with Keron’s family traveling to the US from Trinidad. Having a small wedding would have to suffice until the world was safe enough to travel again. Alongside Becca’s parents, they were finally married in a sweet intimate backyard celebration.
Becca & Keron had no idea what the year had ahead of them – between Becca going to law school and packing up to move to a new state was tough, but when Keron became infected with COVID it was as though their world stopped. Keron’s health degraded quickly and he was admitted to the ICU put on a respirator. Fortunately, he was given the lifesaving monoclonal antibody treatment while their entire family prayed for his recovery. After a long battle back from a dire outlook, Keron’s health improved and he was able to come back home to his wife.
We knew when their 2021 wedding celebration would come, we would have so much to celebrate. Overcoming COVID, finally seeing family from Trinidad, kicking ass in law school, were all great reasons. As Becca & Keron chatted on the phone about the timeline for their upcoming wedding day, they shared one more thing to celebrate this year – they were expecting their first child. I laughed when Becca mentioned it would be more like a wedding/maternity shoot.
If anything, this couple has seen more challenges this year than most people we have known. Seeing them hand and hand at their wedding celebration caused us to pause and reflect that the challenges we as couples face can only make us grow stronger in our bond and truly with a love of all things. Thank you for allowing us to celebrate with you and share your story, here are some highlights from the day.
A special thanks to all the vendors who made Becca & Keron’s day beautiful.
