My how the face of engagement photography has changed over the years. Engagement sessions of today sure aren’t what they used to be. Imagine your engagement happening 25 years ago, you may have gone down to the portrait studio strike a nice “prom pose” in front of a blue-grey backdrop, waited eight weeks for the photos to be returned and then your parents announced your engagement to everyone in the local town paper. This is one of the many things social media has changed. That exciting announcement of an engagement is almost instantly shared on Facebook and Instagram. OK, who hasn’t uploaded a picture of you and your fiance, the ring front and center in the shot? Ok… I’m Guilty! I couldn’t wait to announce to everyone the great news. So even though today’s technology allows us to spread good news quickly doesn’t mean the importance of an engagement session has been lost.
Capture the excitement! You many not even realize what a special part of your lives you are in right now. The hours he spent on picking out that gorgeous ring and finding out the just perfect way to ask you, to the venue tours, food tasting, and your dress shopping. This time of your lives will no doubt fly by. Now is the perfect time to capture how much love and excitement you have between the two of you. You are at the beginning of a very special journey that will last forever, why not start documenting it from the very start of the story?
Practice makes Perfect! I always start engagement sessions by letting my couples know the whole purpose of this session is to have fun and there is absolutely no pressure! That’s it, that’s my one and only rule. My clients are not professional models. If you are like most of us you probably haven’t had your photo professionally taken since high school. So it’s natural to feel uncomfortable in front of the camera. Your engagement session allows you to warm up, get used to being photographed. You will have enough to worry about on your wedding day between your families, timelines, and the butterflies in your stomach. The last thing we want you to worry about is being photographed. So poses that we practice during the engagement session, become so easy and natural on the wedding day, because we have already done them. The Mindy Leigh Wedding Experience always includes a complimentary engagement session, this way we will be 100% ready to go on your big day.
Artwork! Perhaps you have recently moved in together, or planning to do so in the near future. A new home offers blank walls and endless opportunity to decorate and make your new space a personal reflection of you. Prints from your engagement session provide little personal reminders of your love for each other through out the house. You will have plenty more photos to choose from for your wedding, however having prints of just the two of you in casual clothes can provide some variety along with your wedding day portraits.
Getting to know us! We spend anywhere between 8 – 10 hours with our couples on their wedding days. And when I say with you… I mean right by your side. From pumping up the jam to some Flo-Rida and Beyonce in the morning with your besties to capturing a quiet moment between only you and your dad before your walk down the aisle. We strive to capture the natural emotional moments that occur throughout your day. Your wedding is a day to celebrate with your family and your closest friends. These moments will only naturally happen when you feel comfortable and as though we are just one of your friends. Your engagement session not only prepares you, but allows us to get to know each other. Between the phone calls, emails, meetings, the engagement session, and the wedding day, we walk away from each wedding with hugs and feelings that we have another lifelong friend.
