Imagine turning 18 and going off on your own to start your college education at a large state university. Barely knowing anyone at all – you are understandably nervous and quiet as you attend freshman orientation. You take it all in as you have newfound independence with the world at your fingertips. Little did you know your destiny was only a few feet away – in an instant, you meet someone who will forever change your life.
That’s exactly how Kaitie and Ian met 6 years ago, during freshman orientation at the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana. Their first ‘date’ was walking around campus together and exploring. They didn’t know their way around but had a great time getting to know their new home for the next 4 years, as well as getting to know each other as fellow engineering students.
Katie and Ian have grown up since that August day and now share a home and a few pets. Honeybee, their dachshund mix, and their two guinea pigs, Timmy and Tommy. Naturally, after dating for 6 years it was time for Ian to make it “forever official”. Knowing how much Kaitie loves Christmas, he used her favorite holiday to hide a ring box in the Christmas Tree as they were decorating. It didn’t take long for Kaitie to find the surprise and immediately agree to Ian’s proposal. Kaitie put it best, “It was simple and perfect.”
Before we celebrate their October wedding, we wanted to take the time to capture some engagement portraits on a warm spring night and Busse Woods was the perfect location. Here are a few of our favorites from that day.
Photo Session Location: Ned Brown Forest Preserve (Busse Woods) – Elk Grove Village, IL
