Growing up in Iowa you must choose between two very important teams; the University of Iowa Hawkeyes, or you could choose to cheer on the Iowa State Cyclones (eh hmm… the better school). After graduating high school I enrolled in Iowa State, which brings back many years of fond memories and some of the most memorable I can recall were attending games where the two state schools battled on the Football field. Hawkeye fans adorned in their black and gold regalia, and the Cyclones in cardinal red and gold. The week leading up to the game, was always the most fun week of the school year. The rivalry to win the coveted “Cy-Hawk” trophy which was awarded to the winning team was fierce.
When I first chatted on the phone with Laura, one of the first things she told me was that she and Lee were huge Iowa Hawkeye fans. Although it did pain me a little to set aside my old school pride, I couldn’t help but fall in love with their story. Laura and Lee had season tickets to to the Hawkeye football games – they spent many weekends dressed in black and gold cheering on their team. This particular weekend was Homecoming weekend, so they had driven all the way from Chicago to attend the game along with the thousands of fans pouring in from all over the country to visit Kinnick Stadium. Being as the stadium was such a center point for so many good memories in their relationship, Lee couldn’t have imagined a better spot than the south end of the stadium to get on one knee and ask Laura to be his wife. Laura didn’t hesitate to say yes, and now they are planning an amazing Iowa spring wedding.
As I walked down Michigan Avenue to meet up with Laura and Lee for their engagement session, I was pleasantly surprised by the late January weather. The air was not too chilly, there was no wind, and the temperature was hovering right around freezing. It was towards the end of their engagement session that he snow started to fall, making some truly magical images. I am excited to share a few of these with you.
