The lights in the room dimmed as Jessica and Eric stepped onto the dance floor. The guests became quiet as they crowded around to witness Eric take Jessica into his arms and begin their beautiful first dance as husband and wife. The months of practice had definitely paid off as the couple gracefully circled the dance floor. It looked like a perfectly replicated scene from a Hollywood movie. The candlelight warmed the elegantly decorated room as the flicker of the flames danced off the mirrored walls. Black ostrich feathers beautifully decorated the elegant tables along with the authentic accents of the roaring twenties and the Great Gatsby theme which Jessica had envisioned. I caught myself getting swept up in the grace and opulence of the entire scene. As Eric took Jessica into his arms for a final dip, family and friends cheered and applauded for the couple as they finished their perfectly choreographed dance.
I met with Jessica and Eric last spring in a crowed little Starbucks in downtown Geneva to discuss what they envisioned for their wedding day. As Jessica went into more detail, I knew this was going to be a great wedding to kick off our 2017 wedding season. The January air was cold but the sun was shining magnificently on the morning of Jessica and Eric’s big day. Jessica prepared herself the morning of the wedding at her parents’ home, the same home her two sisters had done the same before her. As Jessica was slipping into her wedding gown and her gold wedding dance shoes, Eric was getting ready at his Nana’s house with the groomsmen. It had become a family tradition for the gentlemen of the wedding party to get ready at Nana’s and walk across the street to the beautiful Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church. These wonderful family traditions always warm my heart.
The beautiful Italianate style church built in 1909, added a wonderful dimension of history to the wedding day. The church is quite impressive with its grand high ceilings and stained glass. The sanctuary was ornately decorated with bright red poinsettias for the Christmas season. Jessica and Eric exchanged their vows and everything from the love they shared to the grace and beauty they brought to the dance floor was filled with love, grace, and elegance. Jessica and Eric – thank you so much for letting us share in such and gorgeous day. Here are some of our favorite highlights!
